Foundation Stage

Welcome to The Foundation Stage at Dubai British School.

The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for development and a love for learning which will remain with children throughout their time at school.

We aim to develop each child to their full potential by offering a play-based approach to learning and development, taking individual interests, needs and learning styles into account. Our skilled Early Years staff provide children with appropriate and exciting play and learning experiences to enhance their strengths and support them to develop new skills.

The Foundation Stage is a warm and nurturing environment, where each child is valued and made to feel safe and secure in their surroundings. We appreciate that this is often a family’s first contact with formal schooling and we always work with the whole family, building positive and constructive relationships.

The areas of learning and development are broken into seven areas. There are three prime areas which are particularly important for igniting children’s enthusiasm for learning:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

This then leaves four specific areas through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

At the core of Dubai British School’s Foundation Stage, is the firm belief that every child and adult in the department feel happy and inspired. We consider every pupil as an individual and provide a bespoke, rich and varied curriculum that enables every pupil to thrive. We are proud to have been awarded an Outstanding rating by DSIB for over six years as well as by British Schools Overseas. We were voted the ‘Foundation Stage Team of the Year ‘ at the Education Journal Middle East Awards.
